It took her a long while to find the words. When they came, they were barely audible, muted by humiliation. "My husband.., uh, Jason took to... acting out his script With
... one of his female leads." There. It Was out. She wished she felt better for having told him, but she only felt lessened in his eyes.
"He cheated on you."
Her arms tightened around herself. "Yes."
"Just once?"
"Oh-ho, no!" Here the anger revived. "It was the old story of the wife being the last to know. From what I've since learned, it went on for months. The entire cast knew, the whole writing staff knew, everyone else, from executives to technicians, knew. Why didn't stknow?" she asked in self-derision. "still was too busy trusting my husband. I was too sure that that would never happen to my marriage." She stopped, breathless. "Well, it did," she murmured, suddenly trying to sound philosophical about it but failing miserably.

She tipped her head. "Wrong? About what?"
"Blaming yourself, for one thing," he said, speaking softly, gently. "If Jason wandered, it was a problem he had. I've held you in my arms. There's nothing missing there." Had his voice not been as soothing, his words might have drawn fire. But Debra could only blush.
"There's nothing missing in a medium rare charbroiled sirloin steak, but even that gets boring after a while."
Graham smiled kindly. "You're not a steak. A steak doesn't write scripts for television.
Which brings me to my other point.
You're wrong to assume that everyone in the world thinks less of you because your husband cheated. The world can only think less of Jason. And anyone who
doesn't isn't
Worth considering."
Her eyes were misty. "You make it sound
